Character formatting

Apply bold, italic, and the rest to a selection, or turn one on and type, and the next characters carry it automatically.

FormatShortcut
BoldCtrl+B / ⌘B
ItalicCtrl+I / ⌘I
UnderlineCtrl+U / ⌘U
StrikethroughCtrl+Shift+X / ⌘⇧X
SuperscriptCtrl+Shift+. / ⌘⇧.
SubscriptCtrl+Shift+, / ⌘⇧,
Small capsCtrl+Shift+K / ⌘⇧K

With a range selected, the shortcut toggles the mark across it. With the cursor resting inside a word, it toggles the whole word. In empty space, it primes the next characters you type. The toolbar button lights emerald whenever the format is active at the cursor.

To strip emphasis while keeping the font and size, press Ctrl+\ / ⌘\ (Clear Formatting).
