Export a Word file

Export a .docx your editor or agent can open and mark up in Word.

  1. Choose File ▸ Export as DOCX (Ctrl+Shift+D / ⌘⇧D).
  2. Pick where to save it. GLASS suggests the document's name.

The status bar shows DOCX exported when the file is written.

The export carries your formatting faithfully: marks, styles, lists, tables, footnotes and endnotes, headers and footers, columns, links, and metadata. Font names are preserved, so a recipient who has the fonts sees the document as you designed it. Each chapter exports as a Heading 1 that starts a new page, so the chapter structure shows in Word's Navigation pane and outline.

For a plain-text or Markdown copy instead, see Export plain text & Markdown.

Note

Exporting from Review Mode gives you the document without suggestions or comments. If you're an editor working in a review copy, Export as DOCX isn't available: your edits go back to the owner with Return Edits.
