Spelling and grammar issues underline as you type, in Draft Mode and in Review Mode.
- A red wavy underline marks a spelling issue.
- A blue wavy underline marks a grammar issue.
It's off by default. Turn it on with View ▸ Check Spelling in either mode; the choice is remembered on this computer and applies to both. The underlines appear only on screen. They never change your document, and they don't appear in exports or prints.
Fix a word from the page
Right-click an underlined word for up to three suggested fixes. Click one to use it, or choose Add to Dictionary to stop flagging the word. In Review Mode with an Edit Pass open, a fix becomes a suggestion on the pass, whoever makes it. With no pass open, the owner's fix changes the text directly, and an editor's fixes are grayed out.
Your English
Proofreading checks American English unless you choose another. Open Preferences, go to Writing, and pick American English, British English, Canadian English, or Australian English from Proofreading language. The underlines update as soon as you click Save, and the Spelling and Grammar check uses the same choice.
Words in your custom dictionary aren't flagged as misspelled. To go through the issues one at a time and fix them, use the Spelling and Grammar check in Review Mode.
